A 4 group coffee machine is built for the venues that never get a quiet hour: airport kiosks, stadium bars, hospital cafes and roasteries. A four group espresso machine lets two or three baristas work the same machine at once, so the limit on output becomes the grinder and the milk, not the group heads.

A 4 group espresso machine asks a lot of the bench, the power supply and the plumbing, so most cafes are better served by a 3 group coffee machine or a 2 group coffee machine. A commercial 4 group coffee machine earns its place only where the queue genuinely justifies it. See the full commercial coffee machines range.

Silverchef Rent-Try-Buy is available on coffee equipment, so you can rent the machine and buy it later.

These are the top FAQs for 4 Group Coffee Machine

When does a venue actually need four groups?

When three groups are running continuously through the peak and the queue still backs up. If any group sits idle during your busiest fifteen minutes, you do not need a fourth.

Work out your peak cups per hour first, then compare against a 3 group coffee machine.

How many grinders does a four group machine need?

At least two, and three if you run a decaf and an alternative blend. One grinder cannot keep four groups dosed, and a grinder that is being pushed drifts in the cup.

See commercial coffee grinders for the output ratings.

What does a four group machine need from the site?

A plumbed water supply with filtration, drainage, and an electrical supply sized for the machine. All three are specified on the product page and none of them are optional.

Our appliance installation page covers how we handle the install.

How much bench length does it take?

Substantially more than a three group, plus clear space either side for cups and jugs and room behind for service access. Measure the bench and the door you have to bring it through.

See our delivery information for access requirements on heavy equipment.

Can four baristas really work it at once?

Two comfortably, three at a stretch, four only with a bench layout designed for it. The constraint is elbow room and jug space more than the groups themselves.

Plan the station around milk frothing jugs, knock bins and under bench fridges within reach of every position.

What maintenance does a machine this size need?

Daily backflushing and group cleaning, regular filter changes and scheduled servicing. Four groups means four times the cleaning, and skipping it shows in the cup within days.

Request service through our service request form and keep products from commercial kitchen cleaning supplies on hand.

Is a second smaller machine a better option?

Often, yes. Two machines give you a spare, let you put a second service point somewhere else, and mean a breakdown does not close the coffee down. One large machine means one install, one water connection and one run of bench.

Compare against the 2 group and 1 group options before deciding.

What else goes with a four group install?

Water filtration, a glasswasher or dishwasher for cups, espresso cups in volume and a coffee tamper per station.

For batch and filter alongside espresso, see commercial coffee percolators.
