A retail refrigerator holds stock cold and sells it at the same time. A retail store refrigerator puts drinks and chilled food at eye level behind glass or in an open multideck, where customers can pick it up without asking.

Retail refrigeration units cover multidecks, glass door cabinets and countertop display. A commercial refrigerator for supermarket aisles, or commercial supermarket refrigerator, runs the length of the aisle; smaller stores use single cabinets. Our range includes single countertop cabinets for a small shop up to long multideck runs for a supermarket, so you can buy the size that suits your business at its current size, then size up as your business grows. See supermarket fridges and freezers, commercial open display fridges and commercial glass door fridges, where you will find any supermarket refrigerator for sale that you need.

These are the top FAQs for Retail Fridge

Open multideck or glass door?

Open cabinets have no door between the shopper and the stock, so they shift more per metre in grab-and-go. They also cost more to run, because there is no insulated door holding the cold in. Glass doors cost less to run and still show the stock, so most stores use both.

What sells best from retail refrigeration?

Cold drinks first, then grab-and-go food. Put drinks on the path to the counter and food at eye level, and keep the busiest lines at the end of the run where people slow down.

Drinks-specific cabinets are in commercial drink fridges.

How do I control running costs?

Clean condensers, efficient refrigerants and shutting open cabinets down overnight. See energy efficient fridges.

Back-up stock is cheaper to hold in commercial cool rooms.

What about fresh counters?

Served food goes in deli display fridges and cold food displays, and supermarket fridges and freezers covers full-store refrigeration.

Frozen lines sit in display freezers.

How do I stop an open cabinet losing temperature overnight?

Fit night blinds. Pulling a blind down over the opening after close cuts the load on the compressor dramatically, and it is the cheapest saving on any open cabinet.

Where stock allows, moving product into commercial upright fridges and shutting the cabinet down does the same.

Where should the cabinets sit in the shop?

Keep open cabinets away from entry doors, fans and air conditioning outlets, because a draught across the opening breaks the air curtain and the cabinet loses temperature. Glass door cabinets are less fussy about where they sit.

Integral or remote refrigeration for a shop?

Integral cabinets plug in and can be moved; remote systems put the plant outside, which keeps the shop quieter and cooler but needs installation.

Larger stores usually mix both; see supermarket fridges and freezers.

How much clearance does retail refrigeration need?

Follow the manufacturer's minimum and do not stack stock above the load line. Both are common causes of cabinets that never reach temperature.

Frozen lines sit in display freezers.
